• #sharemyshoes this July to raise funds for disadvantaged children

This July, giant collection shoeboxes will be positioned in every Mirvac Shopping Centre Australia wide for the launch of Mirvac Retail’s new charity initiative, Share My Shoes. The exciting initiative will raise funds for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program - providing educational support to disadvantaged young Australians.

The Smith Family’s Ambassador, Journalist and Network Ten’s Studio 10 Co-host, Sarah Harris said, “'Try walking in someone else's shoes and donate a pair of your own! It'd mean the world to thousands of disadvantaged Australian children and help put them on a better life path through education.

“I'll be donating some special shoes of my own…and if you'd like to walk in them you'd better have big feet – I wear a ladies 11!” Harris said.

The giant replica shoe boxes will act as a collection point for communities to donate their pre-loved shoes, with every pair donated to Share My Shoes re-sold through The Smith Family’s retail stores. For those who don’t have a spare pair of shoes to give, or can’t bear the thought of parting with their old favourites, Mirvac will donate $1 to The Smith Family for every shoe picture posted on Facebook and Instagram alongside the hashtag #sharemyshoes.

To get the creative juices flowing, fun floor murals can be spotted throughout the centres, providing a range of inspiring backdrops from sandy beaches to pianos and Lego, for shoppers to showcase their favourite shoes with friends and family on social media. Spread the word by simply standing on your favourite picture, snap and share on Facebook or Instagram.

Mirvac Retail’s National Marketing Manager, Paul Pozzobon said, “The Smith Family are doing great things for people in need across the nation, supporting the education of Australia’s future generations. We are proud to have The Smith Family as our national charity partner and hope Share My Shoes will help raise much needed funds and awareness for the Learning for Life program.”
The Smith Family is Australia’s largest children’s education charity, helping disadvantaged young Australians succeed at school through its Learning for Life program.

The Smith Family’s Head of Fundraising, Rosie Simpson, said that Share My Shoes was a great opportunity for Mirvac and The Smith Family to work together to highlight how members of the community can play a part in helping improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged children and young people.

“There is huge demand for educational support for young people living in some of the nation’s poorest communities. There are one in ten Australian children are living in jobless families, which often impacts their learning and increases their risk of ongoing disadvantage later in life.

“We know that education is the enabler to a better future for the young people we are supporting. By recycling your shoes, you can help us provide educational support to young people and help them create a better future.

Share My Shoes will run from Monday, July 4 through to Sunday, 31 July 2016.
