Illuminated Art Takes Flight at South Village

The whimsical pastime of flying a kite brings a smile to everyone’s face, so head to South Village to see the latest light art titled Luminous Flight, part of a new exhibition which will see several illuminated art installations on display at the centre from this month.

In a nod to Sydney’s best winter festival, two former Vivid Sydney exhibitors, Firefly Lighting and design studio Amigo & Amigo, are presenting works at South Village.  The installations continue the centre’s passion for interesting art as it plays out against the backdrop of the Mulga murals already created throughout the centre as permanent displays and follows the recent exhibition of giant illuminated jellyfish Crank Zappa made from recycled ocean plastics.

“Coming to the shops is no longer just about picking up the groceries or a bite to eat, it’s about connecting, exploring and having fun. These art pieces enhance the sense of joy and excitement we hope to provide to our customers and guests”, said Centre Manager Alex Perryman.

The LED neon illuminated kites by Firefly Lighting are floating above people’s heads throughout the centre, whilst Amigo & Amigo have hijacked the mall with a series of giant colourful mushrooms in all shapes and sizes popping up in unexpected places. Mushrooms are a symbol of good luck in many cultures, so the artists are encouraging the community to come and find a lucky mushroom both during the day and at night when they will illuminate in a colourful spectacle. The mushrooms are only around until August 25th so make a date to enjoy the art at South Village before then by going on a mushroom hunt and dining in any number of the fabulous eateries at the centre.

The Luminous Flight installation is on display until the end of September and an all new neon Putt Putt course will pop into the centre for more amusement in late August.
